I assist clients through a variety of counseling techniques. The primary method of individual counseling is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Brief (SFBT), and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT).
CBT focuses on challenging and changing unhelpful thoughts, beliefs, attitudes and behaviors, improving emotional states and the development of healthy coping strategies that target solving current problems. Originally designed to treat depression, its uses have been expanded to include treatment of a number of mental health conditions. CBT includes a number of cognitive or behavior psychotherapies using evidence-based techniques.
SFBT places focus on a person's present and future circumstances and goals rather than past experiences. In this goal-oriented therapy, the symptoms or issues bringing a person to therapy are typically not targeted.
This therapy encourages those in treatment to develop a vision of the future and offers support as they develop the skills, resources, and abilities needed to achieve that goal.
MBCT focuses on the present moment. It encourages being mindful of the body, thoughts and surroundings. MBCT attempts to put a pause on on-going issues and focus on what is happening at the moment. MBCT is an approach to psychotherapy that uses cognitive behavioral therapy methods in collaboration with mindfulness meditative practices and similar psychological strategies.
